Soil Restoration Tool - SRT-1 with 8in Tine
The SRT-1 is the hand tool for applying the Bison Underground Method of rapid soil restoration. Quickly make deep, wide holes in soil that allow you to place organic matter six inches down, where it feeds soil biology, accelerates water infiltration, and rapidly transforms your soil from the inside out. Each hole becomes a biological and chemical restoration factory, holding moisture, providing habitat for soil organisms, and expanding outward as roots and biology colonize the surrounding ground.
The SRT-1 is a single-tine Soil Restoration Tool. Drive it into the soil, lever open a hole, pull it out, fill the conduit with organic matter. Each filled hole places biology, carbon, and water infiltration capacity directly into the soil profile, not on the surface where it bakes off or washes away, but underground where it persists and spreads. A natural complement to broadforking, composting, and no-till practices.
Designed by Dr. Steve Adams
Dr. Steve Adams is a geologist who has spent years studying how soil forms, degrades, and recovers. The SRT-1 came out of that work, a tool designed specifically for the conditions that hold soil back: compacted layers that block water and roots, hardpan that conventional tools can't penetrate, and depleted profiles that surface amendments can't reach. It is the primary hand tool for the Bison Underground Method.
The Bison Underground Method
Create deep narrow conduits in poor, compacted soil and fill them with organic matter. Each filled hole becomes a biological and chemical nucleus that improves water infiltration, hosts soil organisms, and gives roots a foothold to spread outward. Works in soil where surface treatments have failed. Learn the full method on YouTube: @BisonUnderground
Changeable, Upgradable Tines
The SRT-1 ships with an 8" tine, but the tine system is designed to grow with your project. Swap to a shorter tine (4", 6") for shallow work, bulb planting, vegetable seedlings, and bare-root transplants. Move to a longer tine (12", 15") to place organic matter deeper into the profile as your soil improves and the tool can penetrate further. Different tine lengths mean different working depths, giving you control over exactly where the restoration work happens as your soil changes season to season. Replacement tines sold separately.
